Anna Nyakana

Anna Nyakana was born in Berlin, Germany in 1986 to a Ugandan father and Moldavian mother. Her family immigrated to the States in the early 90's, settling in Stamford, Connecticut. Anna began singing at the age of 6, learned to read music and play the clarinet at the age of 8, taught herself how to play the guitar at 14, and studied classical piano at 16. At the age of 19, she decided to create her own entertainment company to maintain control of her destiny.

Not only is she a singer, songwriter, and musician,  Anna Nyakana is on a mission to inspire others with her heart for human rights. Being an active supporter of non-profit organizations such as Breakdance Project Uganda, H.E.R.O.E.S., and Genocide Intervention Network, she is spreading light on current events around the world and how we can make a difference.

In 2007, Anna Nyakana self-released her debut album. With her hit-single "Just a Day," she was crowned the winner of the “Starbucks Music Makers Competition” online vote. Her distinctive sound has led to digital distribution with over thirty companies including iTunes, Amazon.com and iHeart Radio. Anna continued forward to promote her debut album, playing in countless venues including MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino & Resort - Ledyard, CT, Fox Theater at Foxwoods Casino & Resort - Ledyard, CT, Penn State University- Philadelphia, PA, SOB'S - New York, NY, Bryant Park - New York, NY,  Canal Room - New York, NY, Piano's - New NY, Barnes & Noble – Stamford, CT, City Hall of Bridgeport, CT, and The Fire - Philadelphia, PA. 

In 2010, Anna competed in the Emmy award winning television show "Community Auditions," which taped in the legendary MGM grand at Foxwoods Casino and Resort. After winning the Star of the Day in her first round, Anna advanced through the nine-month competition; gaining over 90,000 votes worldwide to place in the Championship finals and was recognized as the only artist to perform original music for every round in the competition.

After attaining her Bachelors degree in Business in 2011, Anna Nyakana extended her talents into writing, self-publishing "The Student Survival Guide to Online College." She is currently recording new music for her sophomore album and preparing a children's book series for release in 2012.
